    Overview

    The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Scientist in our Indianapolis, Indiana office.

    Job Summary

    Performs limited assignments under direction of more senior Scientist. Assists in performing basic scientific studies, documentations and investigations at project sites and phases or projects, including planning, design, program management and construction.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Under direction of more senior Scientist, follows clearly established data collection methods to assist in conducting research projects and surveys.
    • Supports research efforts by gathering basic information from government agencies and clients, reviewing maps, assisting in field investigations among other supporting activities.
    • Based on prescribed methodology, sets up test equipment at proposed construction site to obtain scientific data.
    • Using established prescribed templates, prepares written reports, maps and statements of geologic, hydrologic, biologic and/or other scientific findings at project site as it relates to the design and construction of projects.
    • Maintains administrative records, collections and files related to specific projects.
    • Keeps current with trends, literature and new developments in ecology and environmental science.
    • Assists team in the production of project deliverables.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related field

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills

    • Master's degree in Natural Sciences
    • Familiarity in one or more of the following technical specialties preferred: socioeconomic studies, cultural resources, noise analysis, wetland delineation, waters of the U.S. and Section 404/401 permitting, storm water inspection/management, wildlife/protected species
    • Familiarity with NEPA documentation
    • Familiarity with transportation/infrastructure projects
    • Familiarity with INDOT & FTA environmental procedures
    • Familiarity with ArcMap or basic GIS mapping

     

    General Work Conditions

    Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
