    Overview

    The time is right to join HNTB!  We are seeking a Quality Engineer in our Washington, D.C. office.

     

    The successful candidate should be able to analyze data, and information to promote process improvement, and develop standards. Use critical thinking skills to evaluate systems, and processes. Be able to perform an independent and objective appraisal to evaluate, analyze or review conformance to standards for a service, process, product or system for compliance with internal policies and procedures, and compliance with laws and regulations. As well as be able to assess documents, information management systems, and make appropriate inquiries and communicate the technical findings verbally and in writing.

    Job Summary

    Assists assigned department by performing basic engineering-related tasks including research, development, design and delivery on assigned project(s).

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
    • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Possesses a broad understanding of quality/technical concepts and principles to process quality assurance assessments. Specifically, can read and understand corrective action plans, and measure progress towards implementation of recommendations, and the resolution of findings.
    • Can apply concepts and principles both technical and administrative to understand the broad range of operations, activities, processes, and procedures in the rapid transit industry
    • Can champion top management’s quality policies. Applies principles and techniques for building teams, and leading quality initiatives
    • Can manage assignments at a personal level through organizing work, prioritizing work, supports and delivers results to a wide variety of stakeholders while working independently or as a team member. Manages multiple priorities, and deliverables simultaneously.
    • Ability to communicate to a broad audience in person, via phone, and email to all levels in an organization always fostering positive, productive working relationships. Has strong technical writing skills, i.e., objective, clear, concise
    • Can foster cordial relationships with all stakeholders and assists others in making progress with deliverables. Promotes positive interdepartmental relations by acting as a neutral liaison.
    • Understands the causes and impacts of resistance to quality control and quality assurance, can implement methods to work with others by understanding the relationship between others’ goals, and responsibilities, and quality
    • Determines quality and continuous improvement opportunities through analysis of methods, procedures, reports and other relevant data.
    • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and making recommendations.
    • Participates in product, process, and compliance assessments

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering

    Preferred Qualifications/Skills

    Bachelor or Master of Science in related engineering or technology field.

    Experience in independent verification, quality assurance, and quality control.

    Transportation experience preferred.

    Familiarity with ISO 9001 a plus.

    Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
