    Job Summary

    Assists assigned department by performing engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery on assigned project(s).

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
    • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    Aviaton Engineer I

    • Distill technical information and data to form reports for the client.
    • Interpretate data to be distributed and/or presented to the public on behalf of the client.
    • Basic CADD modeling for transportation and aviation projects.
    • GIS/Database input and analysis.
    • Coordinate meetings on behalf of the client.
    • Work on general aviation and transportation projects.
    • Prepare project deliverables that comply with state and federal regulations, such as NEPA, Clean Water Act, Historic Preservation Act and other regulations that apply to infrastructure projects

    Electrical Engineer I

    • Primarily responsible for learning practical application of signal engineering principles.
    • Prepare designs for grade crossing warning systems in accordance with state and federal regulations.
    • Prepare designs for signal system logic including both microprocessor and relay based systems.
    • Develop signal system block designs based on train performance criteria, product specifications, and train schedule headway and run time analysis.
    • Develop material and construction specifications and quantity estimates.
    • Perform field inspections and reporting

    Engineer I

    • Participate in collection and analysis of data and preparation of satisfactory designs.
    • Provide some direction to drafting personnel in preparing design drawings.
    • Conduct investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks, and direct preparation of design drawings and/or specifications.
    • Perform design calculations.
    • Quantity estimates.
    • Check calculations and drawings.
    • Perform specific short term design applications.
    • Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments.

    Geotechnical Engineer I

    • Gather raw geotechnical field data.
    • Review geotechnical laboratory data for conformance with applicable testing standards.
    • Correlate and interpret field and laboratory results for use in analyses.
    • Learn and complete specific geotechnical design analyses.

    Track Design Engineer I

    • Assist in preparing design documents for trackwork, including alignments, specifications, criteria, details, and estimates.
    • Support the Project Manager in all aspects of the project including negotiating extras, cost control, staffing and quality control.
    • Assist in preparing proposals and contracts.
    • Assist in managing the project budget, schedule and program.
    • Coordinate work efforts with others.
    • Review work performed to maintain quality of the deliverables needed

    Traffic Engineer I

    • Collect, organize and summarize transportation data.
    • Develop micro-simulation models appropriate to specific project needs, including Quadstone Paramics, VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, Rodel and Sidra.
    • Estimate, calibrate and implement travel demand models (highways, transit and/or rail) including TP+/Cube/Voyager, TransCAD and VISUM).
    • Work with engineering staff to prepare detailed signal timing and phasing plans for field implementation.
    • Conduct traffic analysis for transportation management plans including projecting and analyzing diversions, establishing and analyzing improvement concepts, and summarizing benefits and costs.
    • Communicate results in presentations and in writing.

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering

    1 year relevant experience


    Preferred Qualifications/Skills

    Master's degree in Engineering

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
