Overview

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently a seeking an Accounting Assistant I in our Lake Mary, Florida office.

Job Summary

Performs simple, repetitive accounting tasks to support general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax, project accounting, or related financial area. Posts journal entries, processes payments, verifies information, files and assists in preparing accounting reports.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Codes such items as receipts, invoices, vouchers, expense reports, etc., with correct codes conforming to standard procedures to ensure proper entry into the financial system.
  • Processes manual checks for approved payment requests.
  • Assists with journal entries, monthly status reports, closings, and reconciling bank statements.
  • Prepares and mails bills or statements or prepares lists of outstanding bills payable.
  • Reconciles various accounts by identifying errors in posting or omissions by applying appropriate accounting standards.
  • Processes remittance information from checks, drafts, and wire transfers submitted by customers, reviewing instructions accompanying items to determine proper disposition and crediting accounts in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Receives, researches, and resolves variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.
  • Files, maintains, and distributes accounting documents, records, and reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent

2 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Associate's degree in Accounting

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
