Our Chicago, Illinois office has a great opportunity for a Civil Engineering Student. This position is a Co-op Engineer role that will have the opportunity to work in various departments during their work sessions. The first work session is Spring 2018 (January - May 2018). This is a multi-session co-op commitment. A minimum of 3 co-op work sessions are required, 5 is ideal. The successful candidate will work every other semester (including summer). This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
Under close supervision, assists assigned department(s) and/or project(s) by performing basic engineering-related tasks which may reflect elements of standard post-secondary engineering curriculum, usually on a part-time, temporary, or co-op basis.
Perform basic engineering calculations
Organize information for use in drawings or other documents
Assist other engineers in various tasks and duties
Construction Inspection Intern
Provide inspection work to monitor engineering plans and specifications
Perform mathematical calculations
Keep daily diaries of inspections
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program
Completion of 2 years of post-secondary engineering program
Currently enrolled student in a Civil Engineering program
Graduation date of May 2019 or later
Registered in your school's co-op program
Basic AutoCAD skills
Proficient in use of MS Office (Word and Excel)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Analytical skills with emphasis in systems approach to problem solving
Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
