Overview

We’re looking for an entry level engineer to join our transportation team in our Philadelphia, PA office to assist with the design of roadway, traffic and water related aspects of projects. This person will receive one on one guidance from engineers as they assist with design and the preparation of construction plans.    This position is based in a professional office environment, with occasional field work.  Our transportation team’s notable projects include the following:  Schuylkill River Trail Pedestrian Bridge over CSX (Philadelphia, PA); Reconfiguration of the Pennypack Circle/Holme Ave (Philadelphia, PA); and I-83 Interstate Widening (Harrisburg, PA).

Job Summary

Assists assigned department by performing basic engineering-related tasks including research, development, design and delivery on assigned project(s).

Essential Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develops plans and calculations on assigned tasks to in accordance with good engineering practice.
  • Assists in the development of construction plans including typical sections, horizontal and vertical geometries, earthwork grading and quantities. Involvement may also include utility coordination, right of way plans, and safety analysis.
  • Assists in the development of traffic plans including maintenance and protection of traffic, signing and pavement marking and traffic signals.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs engineering studies to support transportation design

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience using AutoCAD or Microstation required
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word and Excel) required
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred

  • Experience with Inroads software preferred

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
